1st International Symposium on Integrative Pediatrics

This symposium is a historic milestone characterized by its originality not only on bringing the themes of Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine for the Brazilian Pediatrics but also on integrating groups from so many countries in North America, Latin America, Europe and Middle East to share successful experience and scientific research on behalf of the expansion of high quality in child and adolescent care.

This event is a result of a five-year implementation program of Integrative Pediatrics in Brazil through the Integrative Pediatrics Unit (IPU) at the Child and Adolescent Institute of Clinicas Hospital at the Medical College of the University of São Paulo, a pioneer on this implementation through a multi-professional team. It first started in the field of pediatric oncology at the ITACI Hospital, going forward to other medical specialties such as nephrology, neonatology, cardiology, gastroenterology, otorhinolaryngology, intensive care medicine, pain and palliative care.

The objectives of the Symposium are challenging due to its innovation and daring proposal in order to develop an international collaborative network of Integrative Pediatrics with the support from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) through the Brazilian Academic Integrative Health Consortium.

We will bring the long experience from Canada and the United States, countries that already offer medical residency in the field of pediatric integrative medicine, where the concept originated in the cradle of the American Academy of Pediatrics. This concept is defined as an oriented approach to healthcare taking into account the nursing mother, the child and the adolescent as a whole, including all the elements of the family life style and health. It emphasizes the powerful child-family-healthcare professional triad and makes use of all suitable therapies.

We will be bringing consistent practices in integrative pediatric oncology from Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Israel and Brazil and some other consolidated experiences from Netherlands, Chile and Switzerland.

The event counts on great supporters such as The Coordination of Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health of the Brazilian Department of Health, The Committee of Integrative Pediatrics of the Brazilian Academic Integrative Health Consortium, The College of Post Graduate Studies IBCMED, The Mahle Institute and other stakeholders that will make part of the success of this event.

On the first day we will be exploring the themes of best practices associated with research. On the second day we will tackle the aspects involving teaching, public healthcare and the development of an international collaborative network.

Be welcome!
